[Updated 7AM] Police: Mansfield Woman Killed by Falling Tree During Hurricane Sandy

A 90-year-old Mansfield woman was struck and killed by a tree on West Highland Road Monday night when she was trying to get to a neighbor's house after losing power during the storm.

Updated, 7 a.m., Tuesday:

Olga Raymond, a 90-year-old Mansfield resident, was killed Monday evening when she and two other people attempted to leave her house on West Highland Road and were struck by a falling tree during the storm, according to police.

Raymond and two unidentified others were attempting to go to a neighbor's house when a large tree with power lines intertwined in its branches, fell on them, according to a release Tuesday morning from the Connecticut State Police.

A tree service company and CL&P were called to the scene to extricate Raymond from the tree and downed power line, according to police. The two others were taken by ambulance to the hospital in Willimantic where one was treated for what police describe as serious injuries. Their identities have not been released.

An unidentified Mansfield woman was killed Monday night when a tree fell on her on West Highland Road in Mansfield during the storm, according to police.

Officials responded to West Highland Road around 6:30 p.m. Monday to investigate the report that a tree had fallen and struck a family, police said.

Upon arrival, officials learned that three people had lost power at their home and were attempting to go to a neighbor's house who had electricity when a large tree with wires fell on them, fatally injuring one of the individuals, police said.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police have not released the identity of the deceased or those who were injured.

Two other people were transported to the Windham Community Memorial Hospital in Willimantic with what police described as "non-life-threatening injuries," according to a police report.

The office of the Chief States Medical Examiner will conduct a post mortem examination of the deceased to determine the cause of death, police said.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin, according to police.

The incident is still under investigation.
