Over the past eight years, we have enjoyed a lot of folks sharing a lot of talent! From original music - to visual arts; from comedy - to movement; and from spoken word - to hula-hoop artists, we have been fortunate to offer a platform for individuals and groups to share their passion for creative expression. Over the past year, we identified three individuals that have demonstrated a talent for writing original lyrics and musicianship and wish to highlight their talent through this new event. We invite you to join us for the debut of the “Talent Showcase All Stars” for EC-CHAP’s 2023-2024 performance Season! Featuring All Stars: Finn Rowan, Tom Turci, and John Clark! Artist bios: Finn Rowan is an indie folk singer/songwriter born and raised in CT. After learning to play guitar in high school, he quickly found his creative outlet in writing and have been using it ever since. In forever growing passion and love for music, he is working towards the creation of his first album. Until then you can follow his journey and listen to his sound on Facebook and Instagram @TheFinnRowan. Tom Turci is a central Connecticut guitarist, singer and songsmith. His musical roots stem from bluegrass, blues, folk, rock and country. His original music echoes sounds from the 70's and earlier. Fingerstyle picking, downhome strumming, harmonicas singing and a voice all his own to give it life. Tom writes and performs solo around Connecticut. He also frequently performs with local Southington band "Shed Rats", and with musician Nathaniel Hintz. His mission is to bring community and authenticity back to music, providing the best and most genuine sound possible to his own music and performance. You can find out more about Tom's music on his website tomturci.com John Clark has been a part of the local music scene in eastern Connecticut since he moved here from Florida at age seventeen. He has contributed vocals and rhythm guitar to several duos and various bands, including collaborations with his brother Marty Clark, as well as Nashville recording artist Sarah Lou Richards. All the while, he has been crafting a small trove of personal original songs composed of the various radical musings and eccentric observations of an unschooled creative and social dreamer. John gives voice to the inner workings of his heart and soul, and the excited anticipation of whatever comes next.

As a result, we wish to honor them and feature their talent through this new event. Join us for an evening of acoustic music with The Senior All Stars: Curtis Brand, Rich DeBrito, and Dean Bolt! Curtis Brand: His music starts with the words. In the tradition of singer songwriters like Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, and Willie Nelson, Curtis playfully jabs the listener with the existential absurdity of our everyday life. He tells tales of the human condition--the lost souls, the wounded veteran, the let down lover--and blends them with delightful ditties and love songs in a performance which not only touches the sensibilities but also lifts the spirit. Whether performing solo in coffee shops and house concerts or joining with the On Call Band in full concert shows, the songs of Curtis Brand reach out and speak of the people around us. Rich DeBrito: Rich came late to singing and performing. He liked and was inspired by the music he heard on the radio by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and TV and motion picture themes. When he was about 25 he was introduced to the guitar, and though he didn't take formal lessons, he was able to hold his own. He learned from friends who showed him chords to pop songs along with strums and finger picking styles. In the mid 90’s Rich began to play more regularly at open mics. The rest is history... Rich loves to sing and learn songs - and once in a while he'll create a song. Dean Bolt: Dean grew up in Willimantic CT surrounded by local garage bands, Shaboo bands and other great musicians who went on to have successful music careers. He wasn't one of them. Many years later he found his way to acoustic guitar finger picking style and it clicked. His influences ranged from Leo Kotke, Doc Watson and Bonnie Raitt to James Taylor. With songs spanning from the 1970’s to last week, it is likely he has written and will be singing about something that connects with your experience. From poignant to thought provoking to off beat, he has written for weddings, funerals, graduations and parties. He explores subjects from crop circles to suicide and, of course, love: good and bad. Join The Connecticut State Museum of Natural History and Dr. Sarah Taylor, Collection Manager for the George Safford Torrey Herbarium at UConn, on a spring hike to identify and collect specimens from blooming trees!
Dr. Taylor will discuss best practices for collecting and preserving tree flowers and will demonstrate how to press what you collect to make good scientific specimens. Flowering plants pressed during the hike will be added to the George Safford Torrey Herbarium’s collection.
This hike may be challenging for some and will include hilly areas and forays off trail to look for flowering trees. Sturdy footwear and long pants are recommended.

Nina is a CT singer, songwriter and guitarist who loves working with and performing for people of all ages. She performs original and standard tunes with her own take on old-timey jazz, country blues, folk and rockabilly. Shows are great fun and filled with connection, humor, meaning and conscience. Nina will performing from 7:30 to 8:30 and will be joined by Monique Hill and the talented, Cece Borjeson, who will accompany on percussion.
Horizon Blue captures the essence of California folk/country music. Their music is a harmonic eclectic blend with lush, acoustic arrangements. Horizon Blue’s sound features a variety of unique instruments including: lap steel guitar, resophonic guitar, mountain dulcimer, banjo, McNally “Strum Stick” and handcrafted Connecticut made Ovation guitars. Horizon Blue features the songs of award winning, international singer/songwriter Monique Hill. The songs are heartfelt, melodic, thoughtful, sincere and tell stories of everyday life. Monique’s voice is described by fans as the voice of an angel, sparkling and pure as a bird in flight. This band makes a lasting impression.

Little Chucky heads to the Wild West to outwit outlaws in this cowboy adventure! With a fistful of bananas, Chucky rides into town on his trusty goat for a showdown with Big Bad Bart and his gang of bandits. The Legend of the Banana Kid features 20 hand-crafted glove, mouth and rod puppets, and a slew of flying and twirling styrofoam bananas. Recommended for ages 4+. The show runtime is approximately 45 minutes.

The Friends of the Mansfield Public Library will hold a book sale on June 8th &amp; June 9th at the Buchanan Center at the Library, 54 Warrenville Rd, Mansfield Center. The hours are 9am-4pm on Saturday and 9am-3pm on Sunday. There will be a large selection of Adult and Children’s books, as well as CDs, DVDs, Audiobooks, and Puzzles and games. Books are not “picked over” and most are donated with a small amount being library discards. Books are priced at $1 for hardcovers, 50 cents for pocket paperbacks and $1 for larger “trade” paperbacks. All proceeds support programs, materials and services for the library.

First Church of Christ in Mansfield (United Church of Christ)

The acclaimed a cappella ensemble, Take Note!, is hosting its annual donor appreciation concert Sunday, June 9, at 3:00 p.m., at the First Church of Christ in Mansfield Center, 549 Storrs Road, (Rt. 195 at Rt. 89). 


The concert marks the completion of the group’s 21st performance season and includes many new additions to their repertoire of jazz, pop, traditional and multicultural music. Tax deductible donations towards Take Note! outreach will be accepted at the door.
Since the group’s inception in 2003, Take Note! has helped raise well over $325,000 to assist charitable causes throughout Eastern Connecticut by way of benefit concerts. Shelters, food pantries, houses of worship, Hospice, historical societies, libraries, museums, and arts organizations have benefited from the group’s mission to help neighbors in need. Take Note! never charges for performances, and provides the community organization sponsoring each concert with marketing materials, press releases, media placement advice, concert posters, and programs. All donations collected at a concert go directly to the designated beneficiary.






Take Note! is a 20-voice a cappella ensemble based in Mansfield, and is comprised of select, talented, local singers from diverse backgrounds who enjoy challenging, eclectic musical styles.

Under the artistic direction of Linda Tracy, Take Note! presents its annual June concert traditionally as a “thank you” celebration for its supporters and a fundraiser to help Take Note! continue to offer benefit performances for other local nonprofits, as well as to help Take Note! maintain and expand its outreach. The vocal ensemble’s only source of financial support is through donor contributions.




Take Note!’s mission statement expresses its vision well: “Through performances in support of charitable endeavors, we are raising spirits, raising voices, raising hope.”

The Husky Run &amp; Ruck offers a 10K run, 5K run/walk and untimed 1 mile walk that all start and end in the heart of UConn Storrs campus. Taking place on Veterans Day weekend, the event will honor those who have served. Through UConn’s Office of Veterans Affairs and Military Programs proceeds will provide scholarships for military and veteran students as well as benefit the Kyle Milliken Fund. The rolling courses explore campus and the rural Mansfield-Storrs area, with 10K runners tackling the infamous Bonemill loop. The challenging Bonemill course has long been a proving ground for runners and athletes at UConn. We encourage participants to run or ruck “Bonemill” in honor of Kyle Milliken, Navy SEAL and UConn track and field athlete who was killed in action.
Runners and walkers are both welcome in the 5K, which offers a taste of everything in the local area. The fitness walk is an untimed mile through the heart of campus. All courses will pass by the Ultimate Sacrifice Memorial on the Great Lawn where a Blackhawk helicopter will land during the race!
Event participants will earn long sleeve technical shirts and enjoy post-race festivities taking place outside the UConn Student Recreation Center.
