Mansfield Hires New Director Of Public Works

John C. Carrington will begin on Feb. 10 and takes over for the retiring Lon Hultgren.

The Town is pleased to announce that John C. Carrington has been appointed as the Director of Public Works/Town Engineer. Mr. Carrington was selected following a competitive recruitment process and will begin work in Mansfield on February 10.

Mr. Carrington is an accomplished professional with over 29 years of experience in the engineering field. He has served since 2005 as the Town of Groton’s Assistant Public Works Director and most recently as the Manager of Utilities Division where he is responsible for managing and leading the utilities and operations divisions including Roads and Streets, Fleet Maintenance, Solid Waste/Transfer Station, Facilities Management, and the Water Pollution Control Facility with a $7 million+ budget and a staff of 55 people. 

He previously served over 20 years as an Engineer Officer in the United States Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Carrington holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Connecticut, a second master’s degree in Military Operational Art and Science from the US Air Force Air University, a bachelor’s of science degree with an Engineering Mechanics Concentration from the US Military Academy (West Point), and is a licensed professional engineer (P.E.).

Matt Hart, Town Manager, states that, “I am excited to announce John’s appointment. He brings a wealth of experience to Mansfield and understands and appreciates the Town’s commitment to sustainability and best management practices and principles. I am confident that John will lead by example and prove an excellent fit for our community.”

Mr. Carrington succeeds Lon Hultgren, who recently retired after thirty-five years of service to the Town of Mansfield.

The Town is currently planning a reception to welcome Mr. Carrington to the community. The reception will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014 from 7-7:30PM in Council Chambers of the Beck Municipal Building, 4 South Eagleville Road, Mansfield, Connecticut. All are welcome to attend.
