NWS Confirms EF-1 Tornado Touched Down in Mansfield, Coventry

Officials say microburst hit Tolland Wednesday.

National Weather Service officials Thursday confirmed that a tornado hit Mansfield and Coventry.

Officials said an EF-1 tornado with estimated winds of 90 mph touched down in both communities in Tolland County Wednesday.

The towns saw uprooted trees and downed wires, with a Coventry barn destroyed as a result of the tornado. No injuries were reported.

Officials said the tornado began in Andover, entered Coventry, then terminated at Clover Mill Road near Route 195 in Mansfield. 

The tornado's path was 11.2 miles total, and around 300 feet at its widest point, according to Matt Doody, a meteorologist with the NWS.

Meteorologists believe the tornado was on the ground for approximately half an hour.

This is the fourth tornado to hit Connecticut since July 1.

In related news, officials determined that a microburst hit Tolland Wednesday, with speeds of up to 80 mph, leaving mostly tree damage in its wake.
