Elton John Takes Tour to Mohegan

Comic Rachel Feinstein at Foxwoods, Discussion of Stewart O'Nan Book in Mansfield

Can you really miss Sir Elton John's greatest hits tour stop at Mohegan Sun Arena on March 11? If not, gear up your fastest ticket-buying plan for 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, when seats go on sale for $185 and $125. Is that so much to pay to witness the guy who gave the piano new life with hits such as "Your Song," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and "Candle in the Wind"? The Elton John who sold more than 200 million records, garnered seven consecutive No. 1 albums in the U.S., slews of Top 40 hits, six Grammys, an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Tony? If so, save your money, but don't say you didn't know he was coming. For information, visit mohegansun.com.

For Now, How About Little Anthony for Free?

Can't gamble the baby's new shoes on Elton John, even if he is a knight? How about hearing R&B greats Little Anthony & The Imperials for free at the Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun on Saturday, Jan. 8, at 8 or 10 p.m. The Doo-Woppers from New York have launched hits such as "Tears On My Pillow" and "So Much." The brand-new club recognizes "a distinct class of performers whose longevity and dedication have made Mohegan Sun a world-class entertainment destination." Ceremonies will precede each performance Saturday night. You do need to go early to get a place in the limited hall in the center of the casino. And you have to be 21. Or How About a Gothic Mystery?

Readers of Stewart O'Nan's 2009 book, "A Prayer for the Dying," will discuss this story of a sinister struggle with evil Monday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Mansfield Public Library. When a Civil War veteran moves with his wife and baby to a tranquil town called Friendship, life looks promising. But then the peace is shattered by an outbreak of diphtheria, and Jacob Hansen, who serves as constable, deacon and undertaker, has to choose between saving his family and doing his duty. O'Nan, formerly of Connecticut, has written award-winning fiction, including "Snow Angels," "Last Night at the Lobster," and his new "Emily, Alone," plus his best-selling non-fiction, "The Circus Fire: A true Story of an American Tragedy." The library is at 54 Warrenville Road, Mansfield Center. For information, visit http://www.biblio.org/mansfield/.
