Sunday Brunch and Music at the Mansfield General Store, One-Act Plays in Manchester, and an Ellington High School Art Opening

Legendary artist Paul Simon, fresh on tour with his first new album in five years – So Beautiful or So What – will appear at MGM Grand at Foxwoods Sunday, May 29, at 8 p.m. His set list will draw from the new album and his array of solo hits, including “Kodachrome,” “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” and “You Can Call Me Al.” Simon just performed two of his new songs, “Rewrite” and “So Beautiful or So What” on NBC’s Saturday Night Live on May 16. Sunday Brunch with Live Music

On Sundays, the Mansfield General Store offers a home-cooked, all-you-can-eat brunch with live music by different artists each week. On tap Sunday, May 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. are Mark and Beverly Davis of Hampton, who perform on guitars and the occasional mandolin. This special spot that offers yummy food, an array of antiques, books, flowers and food items has showcased bluegrass, jazz, folk, cello and classic rock on past weekends. Sunday brunch can be had for $10.99.

Young Songwriter Opens Mic at Middle Ground

Teen musician Josh Siok of Wales, MA, will kick off the open mic night at Middle Ground Café in Stafford on Friday, May 27, at 6:30 p.m. Siok, who attends Tantasqua Regional High School in Sturbridge, MA, will play his original songs as part of preparing his first demo CD.

This is a special weekend at Middle Ground, 42 Main St., which opened a year ago on Memorial Day weekend. So drop by and enjoy.

Family Fun Night at MCC

One of the most accessible and affordable times you can have this holiday weekend is at Mansfield Community Center’s Family Fun Night, Saturday, May 28, 6-9 p.m. Free for members and a daily or half daily fee for non-members, depending on when you go, will give you entrée to giant inflatables in the gym and pool, ping pong, drop-in games, kids’ toys, poolside basketball and other attractions. Ellington High School Art Opening

The works of young Ellington artists will be featured in an exhibit opening Thursday, May 26, from 3:30 to 8 p.m. at the Hall Memorial Library, 93 Main St., Ellington. An opening reception with music will salute the Ellington High School artists featured at the free event in the library’s McKnight Community Room. One Acts in Manchester

The thing about one-act plays is they’re entertaining, they’re real theater but each is not a nightlong commitment.
