What's On Tonight: Prime Suspect, The Contenders: They Lost The Election But Changed Political History, Haven

TV tips for Friday, Sept. 9.

Prime Suspect, 10 p.m., PBS (check listings)

This is the original, with the fabulous Helen Mirren (and when you see photos from when it first started, wow was she young!). NBC is bringing out its own version, starring Mario Bello, an actress apparently known for her ability to hawk loogies and smoke cigars and drink lumberjacks under the table. In real life. I am interested in this since I love police procedurals and I have a hard time watching PBS because everyone on there whispers and I have to turn up the TV to about volume 50 and then when I change channels I blow out the dog’s ear drums.

Dear CSpan, You are so geeky. We know the other channels shove you into lockers and duct tape you to walls. But we still love you. Tonight, Henry Clay is featured. No idea who that is, but I am glad that CSpan is giving him his moment in the (very small basic cable) spotlight.

Haven, 10 p.m., SyFy

“Syfy's one-hour drama series Haven, starring Emily Rose (Jericho, Brothers and Sisters) is based on the novella The Colorado Kid from renowned author Stephen King. The series follows the shrewd and confident FBI agent Audrey Parker (Rose) who has a lost past, and arrives in the small town of Haven, Maine on a routine case. Before long, her natural curiosity lands her in the epicenter of activity in this curious enclave, which turns out to be a longtime refuge for people that are affected by a range of supernatural afflictions. As the townspeople's dormant abilities begin to express themselves, Audrey helps keep these forces at bay while discovering the many secrets of Haven — including one surrounding her own surprising connections to this extraordinary place.”
