Experience Hummus
The University of Connecticut experienced Hummus for the first time On Wednesday September 12th, 2012. More than 400 students came to the Student Union Ballroom to compete in the ultimate Sabra cook-off to create the most amazing flavor of Hummus.
Teams of students were cheered on by their peers as they chopped, diced, and sliced a plethora of vegetables and spices. Students not on teams milled around sampling concoctions and voting on their favorite flavor. Of the favorites, the top five teams were tasted by an esteemed panel of judges: Dennis Pierce (Director of Dining Services), Gary Wolff (Executive Director of UConn Hillel), Stephen Petkis (USG President), and Linda Levine (UConn Hillel Board of Directors).
Of the top five teams, Hummm City was named the 2012 Hummus Experience Winner. Team members Erica Lieb, Lauren Bent, Shane Milan, and Taylor Fitzpatrick are all student employees as the Ludewick Visitor Center. The team was awarded a year’s supply of Sabra Hummus and their flavor will be recreated by Galfenbien Commons Dining Hall and served to all students.
This campus wide cook-off was open to all students and was made possible by the amazing support of student volunteers, The Sabra Dipping Company, and UConn Dining Services.
