First Tenants Sign Leases to Open in Storrs Center

A mix of new and well-known venues are set to make the move.

Four commercial tenants have signed leases to open businesses in Storrs Center, according to a press release issued by Storrs Center Alliance Tuesday.

The Dog Lane Café, Froyoworld, and are scheduled to open in 2012.

"These respected businesses represent an excellent start to the leasing of Storrs Center," Howard Kaufman, managing member of Leyland Alliance LLC, master developer of the project, said in a press release.

"In just a few short months, residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy an exciting variety of restaurants, services, and shopping in a true university town atmosphere," he said.

"We appreciate the confidence that our future tenants have placed in us, and we applaud the strong commitment of the Mansfield Downtown Partnership, the Town of Mansfield, the , and the many businesses and residents who share the vision for Storrs Center."

Storrs Center is intended to be a mixed-use town center located adjacent to UConn.

When completed, the $220 million project would give Mansfield new retail, restaurant, office and residential development.

"These four leases are just the beginning," Macon Toledano, vice president of planning and development for Leyland Alliance, said in a press release. 

"We are working with a mix of different types of businesses as we finalize plans for Storrs Center. The lease process continues with a number of businesses that currently have Letters of Intent to be a part of Storrs Center," he said.

Toledano went on to say that the plans to lease space for a bookstore slated to open in the summer of 2013.
