Is Black Friday Shopping For You?

When people start lining up late Thanksgiving night to take advantage of door-buster deals in the wee hours Friday morning, will you be there?

Love it or hate it, Black Friday is the super bowl of shopping.

And with its arrival only mere days away, Mansfield people are talking about the potential savings stores big and small have to offer.

Some people create their own Black Friday “game plans” on what stores to hit and when after they've poured over the announced bargains various retailers have to offer.

There are those so keen on saving they set alarms to wake them up in the wee hours of the night. These folks line up early and some even camp out all night to be able to scoop up the deals they’re after.

When asked on the Mansfield-Storrs Patch Facebook page wheher you'd be participating in the Black Friday madness, a couple Mansfield resident chimed in and neither said that the deals were worth the stress. One added that on principal he won't shop at a store that makes employees report to work at midnight just for the sake of the "almighty dollar."

If you are headed out to brave the crowds, consider these local businesses that are running their own Black Friday specials:

CrossFit Storrs - Half off the first month of membership when signing up for on ramps (introductory classes to the fundamental moves of crossfit). Class schedules and pricing info are available on the CrossFit Storrs website.

Still in Style Consignment - Twenty percent off regularly priced items, with some exceptions.

Olympia Sports  - Check out the Black Friday deals in the November catalog posted on the business' website.

Are you one of those shoppers? Are you a business offering great Black Friday deals? Do you do Black Friday or do you prefer to stay as far away from stores on the day after Thanksgiving as possible? Tell us in the comments

No, North Korea isn't making me nervous. They're just a bunch of big mouthed small minded windRead More bags. What really makes me nervous are the politicians currently in power around here, namely Dan Malloy and Barack Obama. They make me plenty more nervous than Kim Jong Un...

ADHD is a real disorder but is way over-diagnosed. When a boy isn't engaged (bored, not challenged),Read More he's slapped with a label. Sometimes drugs are appropriate, other times it could mean that he needs to move up a grade level or be stimulated in another way. But other times its just covering problems up. I'd like to know what other countries do that diagnose ADHD.

Why not name Marriage between people of the same sex "Gayrriage" and make them as valid asRead More marriage. It may keep more people happy.

And there is the great thing about the Internet. I came here (just found Patch the other day) forRead More some civil discussion about local events with people in my community and not one post later it devolves to, essentially, name calling by anonymous users. It’s the most perfect constant in the universe. Anyway, no, 17 years is not that long in the grand scheme of things, but this is not the 1950’s. And I don’t see why in this case it’s Bill Clinton’s values. He signed the law, but I fail to see how that effects the current discussion. It would seem to be the values of the country as whole that are changing.
