Mansfield Borders Going-Out-of-Business Sale Begins Friday

The nationwide book and music chain operating under bankruptcy protection was forced to liquidate when the company was unable to find a buyer.

Borders' going-out-of-business sales will begin Friday at its Mansfield location in the East Brook Mall and remaining Connecticut stores, state Attorney General George Jepsen said Wednesday in a statement released by his office.

Gift cards and Borders Rewards Plus Loyalty Program discounts will be accepted at retail stores and online for the first 14 days of the closing sales, which will end on or before September 30, Jepsen said.

In addition to Borders Express in Mansfield, closing sales will be held at the following Borders' locations:

  • Farmington, 1600 South East Road
  • Meriden, 470 Lewis Ave.
  • Waterford, 915 Hartford Turnpike
  • Waterford Crystal Mall, 850 Hartford Turkpike, Space R215A
  • Westfarms Mall, Farmington, 433 Westfarms Mall, Space C103
  • Westfield Shopping, Trumbull, Main Street

Items purchased before the closing sales may be returned with a store receipt. All items purchased during the closing sales are offered "as is" and all sales are final, Jepsen said.

Borders Group Inc., Borders’ parent company, that it planned to sell the company to a group of liquidators, effectively closing the company's final 399 stores.

The company closed eight Connecticut stores in Danbury, Fairfield, Manchester, Milford, Simsbury, Southbury, Stamford and Wilton, earlier this year. 

The closures will cost 10,700 employees their jobs, according to the company.
