Mansfield Construction Family Comes Full Circle With Work at Storrs Center

The Zlotnick family, owners of Zlotnick Construction Inc., a regional general contractor and construction manager firm in Mansfield, is currently working on projects at Husky Pizza and Dog Lane Cafe at Storrs Center.

When WWII veteran George Zlotnick opened a construction business in Mansfield Center, he planted roots that would extend over six decades, three generations and the revitalization of Storrs Center.

Zlotnick Construction Inc. has its roots firmly planted in Mansfield. Founded in 1948, the family company is making its mark in the community with its work at Storrs Center.

Zlotnick Construction - now spearheaded by Zlotnick's son, Greg Zlotnick and his sons Peter, Michael and Gregory, all of whom are University of Connecticut graduates - was recently awarded the contract to perform the construction fit out for Husky Pizza, located at 9 Dog Ln., and mezzanine work for Dog Lane Cafe, at 1 Dog Ln.

Both businesses are currently under construction and are scheduled to open in late September and November, respectively.

In an interview with Mansfield-Storrs Patch, the Zlotnicks said they were happy to be working on such a prominent project in their own backyard.

“This is the biggest happening in construction for Mansfield in a long time,” said Michael Zlotnick. “We’re excited to be involved with the project. It’s exciting for Mansfield. It’s exciting for us," he said.

Brother Peter Zlotnick said their involvement was a source of pride for the family.

"We’ve been in the area for over a century, so it’s nice to get your name back in the town," he said. "I want to see this succeed."

Ahmet Akkus, owner of Husky Pizza, said he chose Zlotnick Construction because he appreciated its ties to the town, and said the Zlotnicks were people he could trust with his first foray into construction.
