Sweet Emotions Candy Shop Coming to Storrs Center

The shop will offer over 300 varieties of candy.

Storrs residents can soon satisfy their sweet tooth with the upcoming opening of Sweet Emotions Candy in Storrs Center.

The shop, owned by Barry Schreier, former Director of Counseling and Mental Health Services at the , will offer over 300 varieties of candy, according to its Web site.

From gums, toffees and truffles, to jellies, mints and licorices, Sweet Emotions promises something for all ages.

"We'll have 'gross out' candy like gummy boogers and tongue tattoos that will appeal to teens, all manner of gummy candies and chocolates to appeal to college students, and over 100 bulk choices  so families will bring their children to fill their heart's desire and have the time of their lives doing so," Dr. Schreier said in a prepared statement.

The shop will also offer gift baskets, catering, candy buffets, kids' parties and more.

"This is something I have wanted to do since I was a little boy," Schreier said.

Schreier and his partner Tom Birkenholz have been active in the community since they moved to Storrs five years ago.

Both are members of the Mansfield Downtown Partnership, participate in Smart Growth for Mansfield, and serve as the Chairs of the Celebrate Mansfield Parade, according to the Mansfield Downtown Partnership.

"We really feel like a part of the community," Schreier said. "And so, we're excited about opening a business that will be of the community and for the community."

Howard Kaufman, Managing Member of LeylandAlliance LLC, the parent company of developer Storrs Center Alliance, said he is looking forward to the shop opening later this summer.

"The contagious enthusiasm of Barry and Tom will make for a fun and memorable shopping experience for the variety of customers that their shop will surely attract," he said.
