The shop will offer over 300 varieties of candy.

Storrs residents can soon satisfy their sweet tooth with the upcoming opening of Sweet Emotions Candy in Storrs Center.

The shop, owned by Barry Schreier, former Director of Counseling and Mental Health Services at the , will offer over 300 varieties of candy, according to its Web site.

From gums, toffees and truffles, to jellies, mints and licorices, Sweet Emotions promises something for all ages.

"We'll have 'gross out' candy like gummy boogers and tongue tattoos that will appeal to teens, all manner of gummy candies and chocolates to appeal to college students, and over 100 bulk choices  so families will bring their children to fill their heart's desire and have the time of their lives doing so," Dr. Schreier said in a prepared statement.

The shop will also offer gift baskets, catering, candy buffets, kids' parties and more.

"This is something I have wanted to do since I was a little boy," Schreier said.

Schreier and his partner Tom Birkenholz have been active in the community since they moved to Storrs five years ago.

Both are members of the Mansfield Downtown Partnership, participate in Smart Growth for Mansfield, and serve as the Chairs of the Celebrate Mansfield Parade, according to the Mansfield Downtown Partnership.

"We really feel like a part of the community," Schreier said. "And so, we're excited about opening a business that will be of the community and for the community."

Howard Kaufman, Managing Member of LeylandAlliance LLC, the parent company of developer Storrs Center Alliance, said he is looking forward to the shop opening later this summer.

"The contagious enthusiasm of Barry and Tom will make for a fun and memorable shopping experience for the variety of customers that their shop will surely attract," he said.

No, North Korea isn't making me nervous. They're just a bunch of big mouthed small minded windRead More bags. What really makes me nervous are the politicians currently in power around here, namely Dan Malloy and Barack Obama. They make me plenty more nervous than Kim Jong Un...

ADHD is a real disorder but is way over-diagnosed. When a boy isn't engaged (bored, not challenged),Read More he's slapped with a label. Sometimes drugs are appropriate, other times it could mean that he needs to move up a grade level or be stimulated in another way. But other times its just covering problems up. I'd like to know what other countries do that diagnose ADHD.

And there is the great thing about the Internet. I came here (just found Patch the other day) forRead More some civil discussion about local events with people in my community and not one post later it devolves to, essentially, name calling by anonymous users. It’s the most perfect constant in the universe. Anyway, no, 17 years is not that long in the grand scheme of things, but this is not the 1950’s. And I don’t see why in this case it’s Bill Clinton’s values. He signed the law, but I fail to see how that effects the current discussion. It would seem to be the values of the country as whole that are changing.
