Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued for Mansfield, Storrs

A winter weather advisory has caused meteorologists to call for hazardous weather over the next 48 hours, as snow and rain are expected to make for messy conditions.

'Hazardous' is the word the National Weather Service is using to describe the weather outlook over the next 48 hours, causing the service to issue a winter weather advisory for Northern Connecticut and Western Rhode Island.

The messy weather is expected to arrive late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

The advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

According to the service, two to four inches of snow accumulation is expected and the storm will develop from south to north after midnight, continuing through Wednesday afternoon before tapering off.

In addition to the snow, the National Weather Service said rain and sleet may mix with the snow Wednesday morning and the morning rush hour is expected to be affected by the resulting slippery conditions.

Winter weather advisories are issued when "snow and or ice is forecast to develop... but accumulations are expected to be light."

Motorists should be especially careful in slippery conditions.
