Independent Bookstore Arrives in Colchester

Colchester, CT—November 15, 2012 Books & Boos, an independent bookstore offering used books, new books, and novelties, is opening its doors on November 20 in Colchester.

The book shop is located at 514 Westchester Road, on the corner of Routes 16 and 149 in the Westchester section of town. “We’re right across from the Valero gas station, next to Dr. Khybery’s office,” says co-owner Stacey Harris.

She and her husband Jason decided to open the store to “indulge in our love of books, and in an effort to help support local authors.” One section of the store will feature novels by New England authors who have published with smaller presses, and may not be able to compete for shelf space in a larger bookstore.

The store will be open Tuesdays through Sundays, 10 AM – 6 PM. Previously-read trade paperbacks will be $2.00 per book and hardcovers will be individually priced. “We want to offer great books at a low price,” Harris said. “We have a bargain bin with greatly reduced and free books, too!” A wide selection of books of all genres, including children’s’ books, will be available.

Books & Boos also has a selection of unusual novelties, including horror-themed action figures and pillows. “We’re working with some great artists and craftspeople to bring a unique selection of affordable gifts to fill out our shelves,” Harris said.

Upcoming events for the store include their Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 8, which will feature author Kristi Petersen Schoonover holding a Q & A session and reading from her latest novel, Bad Apple, from 12 – 2 PM. Author Jan Kozlowski is scheduled to appear on Dec. 15 from 12 – 2 PM, and writer Rob Watts will be at the store Jan. 5 from 2 – 4 PM.

For more information, visit the store’s website at www.booksandboos.com or call the store at (860) 861-6214.

No, North Korea isn't making me nervous. They're just a bunch of big mouthed small minded windRead More bags. What really makes me nervous are the politicians currently in power around here, namely Dan Malloy and Barack Obama. They make me plenty more nervous than Kim Jong Un...

ADHD is a real disorder but is way over-diagnosed. When a boy isn't engaged (bored, not challenged),Read More he's slapped with a label. Sometimes drugs are appropriate, other times it could mean that he needs to move up a grade level or be stimulated in another way. But other times its just covering problems up. I'd like to know what other countries do that diagnose ADHD.

Why not make them public! The whole public has been on this since begining. We mourned and have hadRead More tribute after tribute. We got to see the faces of the victims, why can't we see the evidence, life and witnesses of a man who did such a hienous act.. I don't get it.

Why not name Marriage between people of the same sex "Gayrriage" and make them as valid asRead More marriage. It may keep more people happy.

And there is the great thing about the Internet. I came here (just found Patch the other day) forRead More some civil discussion about local events with people in my community and not one post later it devolves to, essentially, name calling by anonymous users. It’s the most perfect constant in the universe. Anyway, no, 17 years is not that long in the grand scheme of things, but this is not the 1950’s. And I don’t see why in this case it’s Bill Clinton’s values. He signed the law, but I fail to see how that effects the current discussion. It would seem to be the values of the country as whole that are changing.
