Archbishop makes final appearance

Archbishop Desmond Tutu in Hartford, for Final U.S. Public Appearance. He will give his last public speech in the United States on May 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the XL Center in Hartford, CT as part of the kick-off festivities for the 2011 World Youth Peace Summit. Archbishop Tutu received the 1984 Nobel peace prize for his nonviolent work against apartheid, the South African government’s policy of racial separateness. The speech will immediately be followed by a special performance by Branford Marsalis.
 
The following morning, Archbishop Tutu will bless the Connecticut Peace Walk and serve as the Grand Marshal. The Institute for International Sport is hosting Peace Walks all around the world on May 21st and 22nd. The Connecticut Peace Walk will serve as the centerpiece, starting in West Hartford at 11am and ending in downtown Hartford.
 
The Peace Walks program will take place throughout the United States and in countries around the world on May 21st and May 22nd. Thousands of individuals will participate in walks ranging in size from small groups of friends to large community-wide events. This program aims to stimulate discussions on the peace process and to highlight the World Scholar-Athlete Games and World Youth Peace Summit, organized by the Institute for International Sport. Funds raised from the Walks will support these programs.
 
The World Scholar-Athlete Games and World Youth Peace Summit will be hosted by the University of Hartford with activities held throughout the Greater Hartford area and the XL Center. To learn more about these events, visit www.internationalsport.com.
 
Tickets to this historic event are on sale. To order tickets by phone, call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. In addition, tickets can be purchased online by logging on to the XL Center website at www.xlcenter.com or the Ticketmaster website at www.ticketmaster.com .  Tickets can also be purchased at the XL Center Ticket Office. Weekday Ticket Office hours are Noon-5 p.m. For weekend events, the Ticket Office will open four hours prior to the start of an event. All ticket purchases are subject to additional convenience fees.
