Happenings Down The Hill -- And Up Some, Too: 06/07 Thread City Century

04/15/14

Thread City Cyclers will host Thread City Century on Saturday, June 7.  The club will actually offer three rides, a century (100 miles), a metric century (62 miles), and a not-century-at-all of 35 miles.  TCC is a cycling club of 150+ members centered in Willimantic and hosts this century and a cyclocross race in the fall, as well as weekly rides of six levels.

Thread City Century rides all start in Chaplin at the Chaplin Fire House and meander, according to club president Dave Waldburger, to Lebanon and the first rest step.  From that point on, the rides diverge, with two of them dropping down into the Connecticut River valley.  The century actually crosses the river and returns by way of the Hadlyme-Chester Ferry.  All three rides will have ample rest stops with plentiful food and drinks, and sag wagons will also be provided for repairs or rides back as needed.

Because it is a ride and not a race, start times are suggested rather than required.  All riders must be properly equipped with helmets.  The event is not a fund raiser, but is offered purely for the sake of riding, scenery, and camaraderie.  For more information or to download an application form, go to Thread City’s website at www.threadcitycyclers.com or email threadcitycentury@gmail.com.

This information is submitted by Peter Leeds, press relations volunteer for TCC, who also finds plenty of time to ride.
