Many Feel Less Financially Secure Going Forward

Feeling less financially secure can affect all areas of your life. Maybe a review of your mortgage can put you in a better position for the new year.

Last week I did a mortgage application for a couple that truly didn’t like each other. At one point, I told the husband, if he made another nasty comment about his wife, I was going to ask him to leave. I don’t remember that being part of my job description.

This guy let me know early on that he would make all the decisions, when I asked his wife if that was OK with her, she simply said NO. This is never fun, but I was determined to give them the best possible service I could.

They had too much credit card debt, primarily because they had to use them a lot over the last couple of years. Both had been out of work for extended time periods and they saw it happening again. They told me, they didn’t see themselves together long term, so they wanted to figure out how to put themselves in a better financial situation, at least in the short term. They didn’t know when either would be out of a job again.

Most of the time, I don’t like paying off credit cards with equity in a home, but in their case, the situation was different. I am doing a refinance for them, saving them $691 per month.

Maybe with a little less financial pressure, they might be able to focus on their family and their relationship a little more often.
