This Week at the Mansfield Public Library: June 18-24, 2012

There's fun to be had at the Mansfield Public Library as school comes to a close.

With school ending for most area schools this week, we look forward to seeing, reading and playing with even more of our friends than usual. With that in mind, here are some upcoming events to make the first few days off the start of a great summer vacation!

Wednesday, June 20, marks the start of "DREAM BIG," our summer reading program.  Sign up at the library or on our website at www.mansfieldpubliclibraryct.org and let us know what you're reading throughout the summer. It is open to ALL AGES again this year. Kids may pick a weekly prize, teens will be entered into a weekly drawing, and adults will have a drawing for some great prizes at the end of the summer. The program runs through August 17th.

Join us for Wonderful Wednesday on June 20th at 10:30 AM for a fun morning. We'll read stories, sing songs and enjoy activities. All ages are welcome with a parent or caregiver.

On Friday, June 22, at 10:30 AM, those of you with children 36 months old and younger can join us in the Buchanan Auditorium for Toddler Time. There are lots of toys, books and chances for social interaction in this fun playgroup designed for children under three. They can play with riding toys, a play kitchen, a toy tool bench, puzzles, an activity table and more!

That evening, also on Friday, June 22, from 6:00 - 7:30 PM, join us for our very first Family Pajama Party! All ages are welcome to join us after hours at the library. Wear your favorite PJs, put on your best bunny slippers and enjoy a variety of after-hours crafts and activities. We'll finish up with a cozy read-aloud, and send you home with a bedtime snack.

And, of course, what would a Saturday morning be without our Family Story Time on June 23rd at 10:30 AM? This is a fun way to start off your weekend with stories, songs, finger plays and crafts for young children and their families to enjoy together.  Stories last for about 1/2 hour, then we move on to a craft activity for all to enjoy and take home.

Join us for any (or all!) of these activities, and keep your eyes on Patch for even more summer fun coming up in the weeks to come!

No, North Korea isn't making me nervous. They're just a bunch of big mouthed small minded windRead More bags. What really makes me nervous are the politicians currently in power around here, namely Dan Malloy and Barack Obama. They make me plenty more nervous than Kim Jong Un...

ADHD is a real disorder but is way over-diagnosed. When a boy isn't engaged (bored, not challenged),Read More he's slapped with a label. Sometimes drugs are appropriate, other times it could mean that he needs to move up a grade level or be stimulated in another way. But other times its just covering problems up. I'd like to know what other countries do that diagnose ADHD.

Why not make them public! The whole public has been on this since begining. We mourned and have hadRead More tribute after tribute. We got to see the faces of the victims, why can't we see the evidence, life and witnesses of a man who did such a hienous act.. I don't get it.

I don't know if this comment was supposed to be serious or not.....but if it is, here's why thatRead More should never happen: http://www.gaelick.com/2011/06/my-marriage-is-equal/16012/

Why not name Marriage between people of the same sex "Gayrriage" and make them as valid asRead More marriage. It may keep more people happy.

And there is the great thing about the Internet. I came here (just found Patch the other day) forRead More some civil discussion about local events with people in my community and not one post later it devolves to, essentially, name calling by anonymous users. It’s the most perfect constant in the universe. Anyway, no, 17 years is not that long in the grand scheme of things, but this is not the 1950’s. And I don’t see why in this case it’s Bill Clinton’s values. He signed the law, but I fail to see how that effects the current discussion. It would seem to be the values of the country as whole that are changing.
