UConn Tops Sierra Club Green College List

The Storrs campus earned the honor through green initiatives like cutting its water intake by 15 percent.

The Sierra Club has recognized the University of Connecticut for its focus on the environment with the No. 1 spot on its 'Ten Coolest' green schools list. 

The article lists many impressive ways the Storrs campus has gone green:

  • Reducing its water use by 15 percent since 2005
  • Building modifications have reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 2,640 tons a year
  • 30 percent of dining hall meals are vegetarian
  • More than 25 percent of the school's food is produced within 100 miles of campus
  • UConn offers nearly 600 sustainability-related classes
