Willimantic Or Windham: What's Up With That?

Down the hill from Storrs / Mansfield / Mansfield Center is the bustling mini-metroplois of Willimantic. A little beyond Willimantic is Windham Center.  However, both Windham Center and Willimantic are a part of Windham. What is up with that? Where do Windhamites live? Does one live in Windham or Willimantic?  And which of those entities is "dominant"?

Most people take about twenty years to solve this conundrum (a bit of hyperbole), but ultimately it is simple, as simple as Storrs / Mansfield Center / Mansfield Depot / Gurleyville / Chaffeeville / MANSFIELD!

Windham, like Mansfield, is the TOWN, one of the proud 169 towns in the state of Conencticut. Willimantic, like Storrs, is a "town" or borough or city or large community within that town (called townships in other states). Windham Center, like Mansfield Center, is a village within the town of Windham. Windham has other villages, such as South Windham and North Windham, as Mansfield has Mansfield Depot.  Vestiges of other villages remain in Windham, such as Sodom, just as vestiges of past villages like Chaffeeville remain in Mansfield.

All Windham residents live in Windham, and some live in the villages and many live in Willimantic.
