Branford Man Dies on Job at UConn Power Plant

Nicholas Esposito, 64, a power plant operator for the university, died Wednesday at the Storrs campus.

Police are investigating the death of a 64-year-old power plant operator for the university.

Nicholas Esposito, of Branford, was found unresponsive around 2 p.m. Wednesday by his co-workers, according to police. 

UConn Police and UConn Fire/EMS personnel, along with paramedics from Windham Hospital responded to the scene. Esposito was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

The UConn Environmental Health and Safety Department and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), were also notified and responded to investigate, police said. 

An autopsy found that Esposito died of "compression asphyxia" and ruled the death an accident, the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office told Patch Friday.
