Homeless Man Arrested After Allegedly Stabbing Girlfriend With Machete

Injuries were non-life-threatening, police say; boyfriend charged with assault

Police were called to the First Niagara Bank parking lot at routes 195 and 6 in Mansfield around 2 p.m., on Saturday after a report that woman had fallen on a machete in the woods and suffered a knife wound to the throat.

But the investigation by Troop C and the resident state trooper's office determined that Hope Wetherell, 40, of 31 Type Road, South Windham, had been stabbed by her boyfriend, police said.

Carl Maynard, 50 (DOB 12-16-61), of no address, was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He is being held on $10,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Police at Troop C said Sunday morning that Wetherell was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There was no information on which hospital or what her condition is.
