Man Struck and Killed by Own Car in Mansfield

A Willimantic man was killed Wednesday morning in Mansfield when his car rolled over him, police said.

An 81-year-old Willimantic man died Wednesday morning when he was hit and killed by his own car on Stearns Road, police said.

John Connell, was picking up recyclables in the area of 356 Stearns Rd. in Mansfield shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, when he failed to put his Mercury Sable in park and it rolled backwards over him, according to police.

Connell was transported to Windham Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to a police report.

The accident is currently under investigation.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact Troop C at 860-896-3200.
