Mansfield Man Charged in Home Invasion

Anibal Carrero was arrested Wednesday on numerous charges related to the September 4 incident.

A Mansfield man has been arrested and charged in connection to a home invasion in town.

Anibal Carrero, of 281 Coventry Rd., was taken into custody by Connecticut State Police Wednesday, following a brief chase that .

Carrero, 40, is charged with home invasion/armed robbery, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, first-degree kidnapping and second-degree false statement, according to an arrest report.

On September 4, police received a 9-1-1 call for the report of an armed robbery and home invasion at 14 Derek Rd. in Mansfield.

Troopers from the Mansfield Resident State Trooper’s office and Troop C responded to the home where two victims told police that they had been confronted by five masked men and tied up during the robbery, according to police. A handgun was used in the robbery, police said.

After a thorough investigation, Troop C Detectives developed suspects, recovered evidence from the scene and were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Carrero, who fled from his home Wednesday when he recognized a law enforcement surveillance vehicle, according to police.

He was later apprehended just north of Stearns Road and taken into custody.

Carrero is being held on $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on September 13.

Additional arrest warrants are anticipated, police said, and will be served on the other four suspects involved, according to an arrest report.

Although more arrests are pending, Sgt. Richard Cournoyer of the Mansfield Resident State Trooper's Office told Mansfield-Storrs Patch that residents should not fear for their safety.

"I am very confident that this is an isolated incident and will not be an issue going forward," he said.
