Mansfield Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges
State police said the man possessed hundreds of illegal images.
A 63-year-old Mansfield man was arrested on child pornography charges Wednesday following a years-long investigation, Connecticut State Police said.
John David Carlton, of 41 Mansfield Hollow Rd., turned himself in to Troop C on an outstanding arrest warrant held by the Computer Crimes and Electronic Evidence Laboratory (CCEEL).
Carlton was charged with obscenity, promoting a minor in an obscene performance and possessing child pornography, according to a police report.

Police began investigating Carlton in September of 2007 after an image of child pornography was e-mailed by an account registered to Carlton, police said.
In November 2007, CCEEL and the Mansfield Resident State Trooper’s Office executed a search warrant of Carlton’s home and seized "numerous computer systems," police said.

A forensic examination of Carlton’s computers yielded 246 images and 68 videos of child pornography, according to a police report.
Seventy-four of the images and 11 of the videos were of child victims who had been identified by authorities in past investigations, police said.
Bond was set at $100,000. Carlton is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Wednesday, April 18.
