OMG PD: Police Make Arrests in Gas Station Cash Grab, Mansfield Home Invasion

A look at some remarkable police cases from Connecticut State Police Troop C Barracks.

The Case: Nicholas J. Brown, 20, of 85 Kozley Rd., Tolland was arrested by Connecticut State Police on Merrow Road in Tolland and charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy (class A felony).

Stephen J. Brown, 25, of 85 Kozley Rd., Tolland was arrested by state police on Merrow Road and charged with sixth-degree larceny.

Jason Shackway, 18, of 31 Torry Rd., Tolland, was arrested by state police on Merrow Road and charged with conspiracy (misdemeanor C) and illegal possession of a narcotic.

The OMG PD Twist: On September 11, Connecticut State Police responded to the . Police said Shackway and Nicholas J. Brown distracted the attendent at the gas station, while Stephen Brown went inside the store and stole approximately $220 in cash from the cash register, according to an arrest report. Shackway was later found to be in possession of “15 blue envelopes containing a white powdery substance,” according to an arrest report. Police said the substance tested positive for heroin. Shackway was held on $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to next appear in Rockville Superior Court on September 26. Nicholas J. Brown and Stephen J. Brown were both released on $1,000 bond. They are scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on September 26.

The Case: , of 281 Coventry Rd., Mansfield, was arrested by state police on an active arrest warrant. Carrero was charged with home invasion/armed robbery, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, first-degree kidnapping and second-degree false statement.

The OMG PD Twist:

On September 4, police received a 9-1-1 call for the report of an armed robbery and home invasion at 14 Derek Rd. in Mansfield.

Troopers from the Mansfield Resident State Trooper’s office and Troop C responded to the home where two victims told police that they had been confronted by five masked men and tied up during the robbery, according to police. A handgun was used in the robbery, police said.

After a thorough investigation, Troop C Detectives developed suspects, recovered evidence from the scene and were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Carrero, who , according to police.

He was later apprehended just north of Stearns Road and taken into custody.

Carrero was held on $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to next appear in Rockville Superior Court on May 16, 2013.
