OMG PD: Week Ending July 10

A look at some of the interesting police cases across the state.

Vernon police broke up  in Rockville in one day. 

The first incident took place at 12:01 a.m. According to a news release, calls came into the Vernon Police Department about a large fight at the 7-Eleven at 180 Union Street. Callers reported that a male was swinging something during the incident, police said. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they found 10 people in the parking lot causing a disturbance, according to a news release. Several of those involved in the fight reportedly were members of the Latin Kings street gang, police said.  

Police could not determine exactly what started the disturbance, according to a news release. 

Several people were issued infraction tickets for creating a public disturbance:
    
• Cloyd J. Lee Jr.,  35, of 17 Regan St., Vernon.

• Justin Ronbinson, 19, of 118 West Main St., Vernon.

• Rafael Baez,  18 of 64 Vernon Ave.,  Vernon.

• Edwin Quiles, 19, of 154 Forrest St., East Hartford.

• Jose Rivera Jr., 19, of 891 Burnside Ave., East Hartford.

• Yamil Cortes-Bonilla,  18 of 14 Orchard Terrace, East Hartford.

• Felipe Rivera, 20, of 29 Delmont Road, East Hartford.

• Roberto Alicia, 19, of 170 West Center St., Manchester.

One 17-year-old was issued a ticket. 

The tickets carry a fine $103 and can be mailed in. 

Arrested in the incident was Christopher Foster, 19, of 249 Sandra Drive, East Hartford. Police said he was charged with having weapons in a motor vehicle - a baseball bat wrapped in electrical tape. Bond was set at $1,500 with a court date of July 19, police said.  

The second took place at 2:23 a.m. and involved some of the same people involved in the 7-Eleven incident. 

Vernon police said they received a call about a group of males walking toward a park on West Main Street.  

Police said a caller reported that one of the males had a gun and was forcing another male to walk with the group. Officers found eight males huddled along a wall, which was hiding them from the street. The males were detained but no gun was found, police said. They all knew each other and nobody was in the park against his will, police said.

All parks close at sunset and police said they issued infractions for simple trespass. They carry a $92 fine.

• Cortes-Bonilla. 

• Felipe Rivera. 

• Alicia. 

• Christopher Foster, 18, of 249 Sandra Drive, East Hartford.

 • Anthony Parker, 30, of 85 Vernon Ave.,  Vernon.

Police have applied for an arrest warrant for a juvenile male after receiving a complaint about a verbal argument between a grandfather and his grandson in Tolland. As the fight grew more intense, the grandson  at his grandfather's head, causing deep lacerations. The grandfather was later transported to Rockville Hospital for treatment. The grandson, who is not identified because of his age, left before the police arrived. An arrest warrant application has been submitted to the county State's Attorney Office and a judge at the Rockville Superior Court for review.

In Branford, a 26-year-old resident was arrested July 5 … twice.

Police charged the man with sixth-degree larceny for allegedly stealing a bike from the condo complex where he lives. A few hours later, he was arrested after allegedly ditching a cab fare.

And these aren’t the man’s first offenses in town.

In Orange, 

A car reported stolen at 1:45 a.m. on July 6 did disappear from the driveway, but not because of a theft. The vehicle rolled down the steep driveway into the neighbor’s back yard.

An Ansonia man who was allegedly intoxicated fell asleep in his car and then attempted to assault an ambulance worker, according to police.

The 27-year-old was reportedly sleeping in his vehicle when police arrived at Factory Lane in Milford at about 11 p.m. on July 4. An ambulance was called to transport the man to the hospital.
