Police: East Brook Mall Jeweler Arrested for Buying Stolen Jewelry

Police said Gangyuah Jin is facing charges connected to his Mansfield business.

Mansfield Resident State Troopers have arrested a man they say was operating an illegal gold vendor in the East Brook Mall.

Gangyuah Jin, 55, of 346 Foster Dr., Windham, was and charged with six counts of violating precious metal/stone requirements, according to an arrest report.

Jin, the owner of Park Avenue Jewelry, located at 95 Storrs Rd., was receiving stolen jewelry in exchange for cash, according to an arrest report.

Police said much of the jewelry came from homes that had been burglarized in the town of Mansfield.

According to an arrest affidavit, , 44, who is currently facing numerous burglary and larceny charges in Mansfield, told police that she had "pawned" stolen jewelry at Jin's kiosk because he "never asks her for any identification," and she "never has to sign a form for the money she receives in exchange for the jewelry."

By state law, licensed gold dealers must maintain a log of each transaction, including the time of the transaction, description of the item, the price paid for the goods and the name and photo identification of the seller, according to police.

Jin told police he never asked Gardiner for identification because he "developed trust" with her "from all the transactions," according to an arrest affidavit.

Police said Jin told investigators he no longer had any of the jewelry Gardiner sold him, according to an arrest affidavit.

Jin's bond was set at $2,500. He is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on July 25.
