State Police Issue More Than 2,000 Tickets During July 4th Weekend

Enhanced enforcement efforts through Monday yielded a large number of infractions.

While motorists made their way to and from their Independence Day celebrations, Connecticut State Police hit the highways to ensure travelers’ safety.

Troopers stepped up patrols at midnight on Friday, July 1, until around midnight on Monday, July 4.

As of 11:59 p.m. Monday, police had responded to 310 accidents - an almost 12 percent increase from the 277 accidents that occurred during the 2010 July holiday weekend, according to a release from the Department of Public Safety (DPS).
