For the third year in a row, the Connecticut Judicial Branch will be offering a day trip for families suitable for kids ages 8 and up to Hartford to the Old State House, the State Capitol, the Connecticut Supreme Court and the Museum of Connecticut History.
Highlights of the trip include:
- Connecticut Invents! A hands-on activity that teaches kids about the many famous and not-so-famous Connecticut inventors and inventions using objects and photographs in the Museum of Connecticut History's collection. Morning tours offered at 9:30, 10:30, 11:30 a.m. with one afternoon tour at 1:30 p.m.
- A visit to the State Capitol, a National Historic Landmark, where kids will learn about the legislative process on a tour of the House and Senate chambers. They'll also visit the Hall of Flags and see flags carried into battle by Connecticut soldiers. Tours run hourly from 10:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
- A trip to the historic Supreme Court, where they'll learn about some of the most important legal rulings made in Connecticut over the past century. Morning tours offered at 9:30, 10:30, 11:30 a.m. with one afternoon tour at 1:30 p.m.
- A visit to Connecticut's Old State House for an interactive program designed to teach children about the state's early government and the people who helped Connecticut become known as the "Constitution State." Tours offered at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m.
The day trip, which will be held August 9, is cosponsored by the League of Women Voters, the Museum of Connecticut History, and the Old State House. The tours are free. Lunch will be available for purchase at the Legislative Office Building’s cafeteria from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Parking for the State Capitol, the Supreme Court and the Museum of Connecticut History is available free of charge in the Legislative Office Building (LOB) garage located off of Armory Road. Validated parking for $5.00 is available at the Constitution Plaza South parking lot for visitors to the Old State House.
If you park at the LOB, the Old State House is just a short walk from the Capitol Building through Bushnell Park, where you can also see the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch and take a ride on the Carousel!
