Mansfield Public Schools Take Mail Handling Precautions

The district will begin a new practice Thursday.

In response to recent events involving the delivery of envelopes with white powder to Connecticut schools, Mansfield Public Schools will begin to open all regular mail outside of its buildings, Superintendent of Schools Fred Baruzzi announced Thursday.

“This is being done as a precaution to ensure that our regular instructional program will not be disrupted and is not based on any credible threat to any of our schools,” said in an e-mail to parents.

No one was injured, and the substances are not believed to be hazardous, according to the Hartford Courant. Investigations are ongoing.

Baruzzi went on to say that the district would continue the practice “until further notice” under the guidance of Connecticut State Police.
