Geno Auriemma is opening a restaurant this fall in the heart of Storrs Center.
“This will be the place to be in Storrs Center," Mansfield Mayor Elizabeth Paterson said Tuesday. “From the beginning of this project, we had a vision to be unique, to be a place of destination. Geno’s will help us accomplish that," she said.
Geno's, Auriemma's newest venture, is advertised as a "relaxed, yet fun dining experience" with indoor/outdoor seating for over 100 people.
Auriemma and his partners also own and operate Geno's Fast Break at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncaseville.
"The food is going to be absolutely fantastic," Auriemma said. "I'm confident that it's [Geno's] going to be better than good, it's going to be great," he said.
Auriemma described the restaurant as "upscale/casual" and affordable, and said he hoped it would become a gathering place for families, faculty and students in the community.
"We're going to have a little bit of the things that you all like to eat when you go out," Auriemma said. "I promise you that."
