University of Connecticut men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun will have surgery Monday for spinal stenosis.
“I’m glad we have finally determined the best course of treatment to deal with the problem,” Calhoun said Wednesday in a prepared statement.
“I’m looking forward to having the procedure done, hopefully recovering as quickly as possible, and putting it all in the past.”
Following his recovery, Calhoun's coaching status will be "evaluated on a day-to-day basis," the university said.
Calhoun will not coach Saturday's game against Syracuse or at Providence on Tuesday. Tuesday will mark the eight game of Calhoun's absence since taking medical leave earlier this month.
