Tom Hubbard to Read at the University of Connecticut
Hubbard is currently the Lynn Wood Neag Distinguished Visiting Professor in Scottish Literature at UConn. He will read from his novel, Marie B., based on the life of nineteenth century Ukrainian-French artist, diarist, and feminist journalist Marie Bashkirtseff. The novel, Hubbard’s first, was nominated for the 2009 Saltire Book of the Year Award. Catherine Czerkawska of the Edinburgh Review praises the book, remarking “That the whole is so magical has a great deal to do with...[Hubbard’s] ability as a poet to encapsulate complex ideas within deceptively simple prose forms.”
The reading, which is sponsored by Lynn Wood Neag Distinguished Visiting Professorship, the UConn Co-op, and the Creative Writing Program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is free and open to the public. The UConn Co-op is located at 2075 Hillside Road, next to Gampel Pavilion. For more information, please visit the Creative Writing Program’s website at www.creativewriting.uconn.edu.
