Mansfield Resident Receives Honorable Mention for First Year Writing Award

Kyle Marrotte recently received an award from the Eastern Connecticut State University English Department.

Kyle Marrotte '15, of Mansfield, received honorable mention for the First-Year Writing Award from the Eastern Connecticut State University English Department on Dec. 5 for his piece "A Call for the Immediate Repeal of Copyright." Marrotte is majoring in Computer Science.

The first-year writing awards are given to students in ENG 100 and 100Plus whose writing is "innovative, creative, splendidly researched or uniquely articulated." Student winners are selected by the Writing Center tutors. The money for the awards comes out of English Department scholarship funds.

According to English Professor Ferruci, "We started these awards because we were seeing so much good writing coming out of the first-year writing program, and we wanted to celebrate and reward that."
