U.S. Senator Al Franken, Democrats to Join Rally for Chris Murphy at UConn

Mansfield residents, Democratic campaigners and UConn College Democrats are slated to attend Saturday's rally at the UConn Student Union.

U.S. Sen. Al Franken of Minnesota is scheduled to campaign at the University of Connecticut Saturday in support of Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Chris Murphy in his race against Republican Linda McMahon.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, Congressman Joe Courtney, Secretary of the State Denise Merrill, State Representative Gregory Haddad (D-Mansfield, Chaplin) and a host of other democrats are expected to join Franken in an appearance today, Oct. 20, at the UConn Student Union.

The rally is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.

"It's a great opportunity for residents to hear directly from Chris Murphy," said Mark LaPlaca, Mansfield Democratic Town Committee Chairman. "We want to drive out as much turnout as we can not only from students and those in Mansfield, but in the surrounding area in this rally to support Chris Murphy," LaPlaca said.

Challenger McMahon has three rallies scheduled for Monday, Oct. 22 with special guest Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) at the Stamford Marriot at 1:30 p.m.; Howland - Hughes Co. in Waterbury at 3:30 p.m.; and Pond House Grille & Banquet in Glastonbury at 5 p.m.
