SNY has named Meghan Pattyson Culmo ’92 (CLAS) and Kara Wolters ’97 (CLAS), two former Husky stars and longtime basketball analysts, as part of the team that will televise women’s basketball games when the 2012-2013 season tips off on Nov. 11.

Culmo, a former team captain and assistant coach, will serve as the game analyst during 20 broadcasts on SNY with play-by-play announcer Andrew Catalon and sideline reporter Kerith Burke. Wolters, a member of the Huskies’ first NCAA Championship team and an analyst for the past six years on the UConn Radio Network, will serve as the studio analyst with host Gary Apple, for pre-game, half-time, and post-game shows.

“We have assembled a formidable and highly experienced group of on-air talent who will bring expert analysis, unique insight, and compelling story-telling,” says Curt Gowdy Jr., senior vice president of production and executive producer of SNY.

Prior to the Nov. 11 contest against the College of Charleston, SNY will air a special pre-game show featuring in-depth analysis of the upcoming season, including interviews with players and coaches, and will highlight key players to watch.

“We will provide exceptional coverage for the best women’s basketball fans in the nation,” says Culmo, who has been a color analyst on radio and CPTV for more than a decade, including serving as host for The Geno Auriemma Show. “I cannot wait to get started working with Andrew, Kerith, Gary, and Kara – great people who will work so hard to bring the best product to the air for our loyal fans.”

Wolters, the 1997 National Player of the Year in women’s college basketball, is one of only seven players to have won an NCAA Championship (1995), WNBA championship (1999), and Olympic gold medal (2000).

“I am thrilled to know that a broad audience will have the opportunity to experience the championship caliber of the UConn women’s basketball program,” she says.

Catalon has play-by-play experience covering National Football League games on CBS and NBC, the Master’s golf and U.S. Open tennis tournaments, and has worked three Olympics for NBC, including the 2012 London Games.

“It’s an honor to be working with the top women’s basketball program in the country,” says Catalon. “Growing up in the Northeast, I fully understand the passion UConn fans have for this team and that is very exciting. We will respect and honor that tradition.”

SNY is the official TV home of the Big East Conference – airing more than 125 Big East football and basketball games – as well as other critically acclaimed Big East programming. As New York’s leader in local sports TV coverage, SNY delivers the most comprehensive access to all of the Tri-State area’s professional and collegiate sports teams through five nightly sports and entertainment programs – broadcast in state-of-the-art HD – from SNY’s street-level studio in the heart of Manhattan.

ADHD is a real disorder but is way over-diagnosed. When a boy isn't engaged (bored, not challenged),Read More he's slapped with a label. Sometimes drugs are appropriate, other times it could mean that he needs to move up a grade level or be stimulated in another way. But other times its just covering problems up. I'd like to know what other countries do that diagnose ADHD.

And there is the great thing about the Internet. I came here (just found Patch the other day) forRead More some civil discussion about local events with people in my community and not one post later it devolves to, essentially, name calling by anonymous users. It’s the most perfect constant in the universe. Anyway, no, 17 years is not that long in the grand scheme of things, but this is not the 1950’s. And I don’t see why in this case it’s Bill Clinton’s values. He signed the law, but I fail to see how that effects the current discussion. It would seem to be the values of the country as whole that are changing.
