Vinton PTA Requests Help for Local Family

Young family needs help with meals and plowing this winter, the first since the father's unexpected death.

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is arranging support services for the family of Dan Moon, a Mansfield resident who died unexpectedly in September.

To help the Moon family, including his wife Michelle and three children, grocery store gift cards can be dropped off at the elementary school’s office.

The organizers are requesting gift cards from Whole Foods, or Stop & Shop rather than prepared meals, as the eldest daughter, a 1st-grader at Vinton, has severe food allergies. Moon also has 17-month-old twins.

“I definitely appreciate any help that we’re able to get,” Moon said.

The PTA approved the purchase of a $200 gift card for Whole Foods to give to the family at its Oct. 24 meeting.

In addition, the association is planning to include the Moons in its annual adopt-a-family event, said PTA Board Member Lisa Drzewiecki.

“We’ll be helping her out at Christmas that way,” Drzewiecki said.

Moon is also looking for people to help shovel or plow her driveway this winter.

“People that know them I’m sure have helped out in their own way, but as far as going through the school, I haven’t heard anything at this point," Drzewiecki said.

A fund has also been created for the family. Donations can be made to The Moon Children’s Fund at Liberty Bank on West Main Street in Willimantic.
