This state is too small to represent an accurate picture of whether gun control laws work. Let us look at a large state like Texas and California Texas has an area of 268,820 square miles and a growing population of 26.1 million residents. It is huge and has borders with four other states. It also has a huge border with a foreign country - Mexico. Same as California. Texas is diverse. Hispanic : 25.1%, Whites: 45.3%, Black or African American: 11.8%,, Native American: 0.7%, Asian: 3.8% California is rated the BEST state by the Brady Campaign for Most Stringent Gun Laws. Texas is rated the WORST state by the Brady Campaign for Most Stringent Gun Laws. Yet the Gun Murder Rate per 100,000 people is lower in Texas at 3.2 deaths and California at 3.4 deaths per 100,000 people. These statistics are from the Brady Campaign Rating site.
