George Beiter on qualifications for the Suffield Board of Education:

My fellow candidates and I are all here because we want to serve. We all have strengths and weaknesses…the things we are good at, and those areas that we need to work on. There is a great slate of candidates, and you should consider the whole team. We do not accomplish much in life on our own. We surround ourselves by great people, and our school board should be no different.

What I bring is a parent’s voice. My wife, Cami, and I have three kids attending three of the four public schools in Suffield. Our 15-year-old son Mason is at the High School. Our other son, Landon, is an 8th grader at the middle school, and our daughter Peyton is in her last year at McAlister. I will have the student’s best interest in every decision.

In addition to having children in our schools, I grew up with a proud public school teacher as a father. I have seen the challenges and stereotypes teachers face. And more importantly I’ve seen the reward and satisfaction from making a difference in the lives of our children.

I will bring leadership to this position. I am a graduate of the Naval Academy, and I served six years as a commissioned naval officer.

I will bring a business perspective to the board. Over the past decade I have held multiple management positions with both small as well as publicly traded companies. I am currently the Sales Director for a multi-million dollar, international building products company. I understand the importance of working within budgets and profitability. Those aren’t just words for corporate America, but words that can be applied to the school board and its obligation.

Finally, I will bring a dedication and disciplined work ethic to our school board.
