Happenings Down The Hill: Cupid Shuffle Road Race Warms the Hearts and Lungs of Local Runners

Weekend activities in Willimantic.

The burgeoning sports scene in Willimantic continues on Saturday, February 9, with the Cupid Shuffle, a 2-mile road race.  The race is a fundraiser for the Windham High School yearbook and is sponsored by Windham Federation of Teachers.  The race begins at 10:00 at Windham High School and courses through Willimantic’s historic Victorian homes hill section.  The race is one of several events celebrating the Valentine’s Day and “Romantic Willimantic.”  For more information on the race, please follow the link below.

In answer to some questions that may be asked by students or staff of the University of Connecticut, Eastern Connecticut State University, and / or Quinebaug Valley Community College, Willimantic is not just the frog bridge town.  Willimantic is one of the four communities that comprise the town of Windham:  The villages of Windham Center, North Windham, and South Windham and the city of Willimantic.  Although the history of the phrase “Romantic Willimantic” is murky through the passage of years, Willimantic community members, activists, and leaders have embraced the euphonious and poetic sound of the phrase and turned it into a celebration of the community.
