Happenings Down The Hill: Windham Approved By State For Microgrid Project

As reported in the Hartford Courant (July 25, 2013, A5), Windham is one of nine Connecticut towns receiving state funding to produce a microgrid, or small power plant, so that parts of the municipality can still operate during a power outage.  The microgrid projects are a result of an effort to reduce dependence on the grid in the event of a power outage.

Windham is set to receive $639,950 for natural gas, solar, battery, and diesel powered generators.

Other towns to receive funding include Storrs, which will receive $2.14 million for a fuel cell and solar power array for the UConn Depot campus.
